The Safdie Brothers really know what they're doing at, what feels like, every moment of this and Uncut Gems. Never a dull moment with the story. The camera works was so meticulously crafted that I had a hard time telling when each scene stopped and started. Robert Pattinson's and Benny Safdie's performances were even better than the score, and that's saying a lot! The directing was perfect and the adrenaline was pumping with each and every line of dialogue. This review may sound really choppy, and sorry for that, but my hands are still shaking from this and I need to get my thoughts out quick before I forget them. Not as good as Uncut Gems, but damn near perfect.
Safdie marathon continues with a rewatch of Good Time. They have hit their stride. I can get a better idea of what they are trying to accomplish. Showing things go well in a bad situation. Then bad things turnings worst. Like when they robbed the bank I was like “yay they got away.” But that small since of a false victory creates stress when things end up not going according to plan, cause you look back on that false victory and realize they shouldn’t have even done that to beginning with. But honestly I love movies that trigger a certain emotion it’s trying to get out of you and the Safdie Brothers achieve this over and over again. Excited for their future projects.
This film is very weird in some aspects and others it’s very very Safdie like. The multiple subplots that kinda took over the film at some point were.. interesting to say the least. Some parts of this film were weird almost boring but some parts redeemed it a bit. The neon lighting was cool as I always like that neon style lighting. I found the film to be less enjoyable in fact I would go to say this film wasn’t an enjoyable or pleasant experience at all. But that’s now always a bad thing. Some shots I found to be cool and the soundtrack was pretty decent but overall this is an alright film and I don’t think I will ever rewatch it. A24 Ranked
