As someone who hasn’t had a close friend since I was 8 years old, I find this movie a little too relatable. Many times I would find myself comparing to things Craig would do and think how similarly I have felt in the past. Of course, this movie constantly takes everything to the nth degree. For every slightly relatable moment, there are dozens upon dozens of shockingly cringe-inducing ones. I feel like there is a lot this movie is trying to say, especially about addiction and toxic relationships. But there is a dreamlike, surrealist element to this movie that makes its deeper themes tough to grasp. Perhaps on a rewatch, I will be able to comprehend more. Perhaps not. At night, I think of you…
How great is laughing with a theater full of strangers? This movie gets five stars because it made me laugh start to finish. It also got me emotionally invested in every character. At the same time, it was a gut punch because of how many mannerisms I shared with Craig.
