A really, really cute parody film that covers the history of the mystery/thriller genre up to that point. Inspired by classics like Double Indemnity all the way up to Basic Instinct, that had released the year prior. With its focus on references, it feels closer to a Scary Movie than The Naked Gun. This is a very underrated movie that I would recommend to any spoof lover or any lover of the thriller genre that doesn’t have a stick up their ass. This is a love letter to the classics and thus a lot of references and jokes could go over the modern viewer’s head. Hell, I watched two Michael Douglas just so I could get some of the jokes, and I’m gonna be honest, it helped. This is a movie for a specific time, and sometimes you have to put yourself there to fully appreciate something.
