In some aspects, it’s probably better than Basic Instinct, but it’s just so melodramatic. After the turn, Glen Close just plays plain crazy, and you can’t sympathize with her. Obviously, Michael Douglas is no saint either, but he’s not trying to actively ruin someone’s life either. You know, beyond cheating on his wife and getting someone pregnant. After the beginning, it’s never really surprising, and all plays pretty straight. Where Basic Instinct has so much sauce, I already want to watch it again; this one didn’t move me as much, despite having a good enough time. I just don’t see myself putting this on again.
