If you view this through the lens that this is a story being recounted to you rather than simply watching something happening, it greatly improves the experience and makes the fantastical and romantic elements make more sense. It is definitely far from perfect (I blame the edit), but still extremely enjoyable. I love movies about the Emerald Isle, and I appreciate this movie’s optimism while still discussing class struggle and other issues. It criticizes aspects of America while ultimately upholding the American dream and manifest destiny. There is a larger discussion that could be had here, but I am too tired. I have one movie left until I have seen every Tom Cruise movie, and I am so excited.
