Every great sports movie (or movie in general, for that matter) should understand that it's not about the final match, the last lap, or the knockout; it's about the people behind it all. Something exceedingly elementary that another one of Apple TV+'s distributed works, Ted Lasso, understands to the umpteenth degree. Sure, the racing scenes are an electric treat and gripping as all hell, but I just saw Brad Pitt going on an ego trip as Brad Pitt and nothing more. I don't care about boxing, and I sure as hell don't care about soccer, but I love Rocky and Ted Lasso warms my heart and wets my cheeks through anything but the "big game." also fuck all that Lebron's coming to Philly and now I suddenly care about basketball

What an experience in IMAX!!!! Literally goosebumps. 100% being shot in IMAX camera makes it even more special. It utilises the screen perfectly and ends up becoming a technical masterpiece more than a storytelling masterpiece - Kinda nitpicking but I will have to mention that storytelling wasn’t its biggest strength. But everything else from executing the race and the way it’s shot was phenomenal. One of the best IMAX experiences ever.

A movie that completely lives up to the trailer.  Does every movie need to be completely original, Is it not enough to simply go along for the ride? Did I think of other movies as I was watching this? Yes. But is this the best version of that story? Possibly.  Its similarity and connection to top gun maverick calls to mind days of thunder and makes me wonder what this film would have been like with tom cruise in the lead and if that was ever the plan. 

The racing sequences were excellent and had me on the edge of my seat. Brad Pitt was as charming as ever. The supporting cast around him gazed into his eyes while daydreaming as they should. That's not my problem. The onslaught of advertisements in the F1-verse and in the movie (lots of watch closeups) could even be interpreted as a way to differentiate Pitt's character from the F1 world - so it's not even that. It's that disgusting glossy shine new movies have. David Cronenberg was right about this new digital look being a choice. The Holdovers and The Surfer both shot on digital but look fantastic. Holdovers was digital right? I'm not totally sure. But that gross shiny look was a choice and I found it to be a bad choice. TWO STARS

wow, what a ride! the sound design? 10/10, no question. every engine roar and tire screech felt like it was happening in my chest. visually, it’s stunning....like, every frame could be a wallpaper. i did have to put my brain away during some of the racing scenes (the geek in me was twitching a bit lol), but honestly, it didn’t even matter. the whole thing was such a rush. damson idris absolutely crushed it 🙇🏻‍♀️ this one’s made for the big screen. truly a theatrical experience. loved it!! 🏁🔥
