What an oddball of a film. I honestly respect Cruise for even saying yes to this. That big curveball that happens 30 minutes into the film was something I didn’t really like at first, but ended up loving it when we got that very last shot. References to the real world were obvious. A lot of it is straight on the nose but that’s how the genre of satire is. Can be a bit of a turn off for people who don’t fuck this style of filmmaking. It’s pretentious af but the ambition and the ambiguous nature of the storytelling makes me respect it a lot. Works perfectly as a spin-off sequel to Tropic Thunder as well lmao. Cruise’s character just got older. The body language, attitude and everything else is the exact same lol.
