Confessions of a Dangerous Mind2002

Always searching for paradise I'll admit that I'm good as blind Darling I confess yes I've ruined three lives And didn't care till I found out  that one of them was mine I love movies about weird guys. And this one, much like Bronson, is unusual because it is a true story at least according to the guy who says it. It’s a lot like Catch Me If You Can; except at least half of this story is verifiable. It is at least true that Chuck Barris was the creator of many popular game shows in the 70s. But as for everything else, who can say? It’s the kind of thing where if someone denies it, you have to think “you would say that wouldn’t you?” Maybe writing about the CIA stuff was just his way to cope with something else. Maybe some past trauma or just the humdrum of everyday life being a tv producer. I don’t know, what do I look like a brain doctor? I really liked this movie. Its potential plausibility makes it fascinating, and it’s the kind of story and movie no one could come up with on their own. It is well stylized in a way I like and an incredible first foray in the director’s chair by Mr. Clooney.  Rockwell as well is amazing as always. It’s a wonderfully interesting character, and Rockwell has such an inhuman humanity in himself and the roles he often chooses that is quite relatable. I feel myself as a kind of fringe human, but maybe that just makes me more normal.  I guess we could perceive this as the story of an asshole who tries to justify his asshole tendencies and hide behind mommy issues and violence. He is definitely not a good person. But it’s interesting that he at least tries to find some explanation even unintentionally.  All in all, I think this is a pretty good film, and it’s possible I’ll like it even more on another viewing. I’ve missed watching movies like this, and hopefully, I will watch more like it in the near future.
