Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings—some good, some bad—and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there's one thing that makes Chappie different from any one else: he is a robot.

I fell in love with Chappie. Sharlto Copley is always entertaining, but his performance in Chappie is right up there with Andy Serkis’ Gollum as the most endearing creature, both dark and light, innocent and deadly, layered and profound. Chappie was funny, heartbreaking, endearing, and visually stunning to watch, just like director Neill Blomkamp’s breakout District 9. It’s funny, a movie about a robot mentally born as a baby and trained by reject wannabe criminals only jumps the shark when Hugh Jackman takes center stage.
