Strong emotional pull of the story and characters (Sally Hawkins is amazing) is what makes it a good enough watch. I enjoyed the whole build up initially but there are some things that gave away more than what was intended. This made the whole climax terrifying yet uninteresting at the same time. Body horror elements are inconsistent. It’s just there without much of an impact. Wish it was crisper in terms of unravelling the mystery (Their “Talk to me” was exactly that)
One of the most uncomfortable watches I’ve had which I think was the creators intention and thus for me it was successful in what it was trying to do. I would consider it a sister film to hereditary but it doesn’t take any of its ideas quite as far. So a hereditary-lite. There are some questions left intentionally unanswered but not in an interesting way. More like “here’s some cool ideas but let’s not put a lot of effort in putting them all together” kind of way. I loved all the performances and everything that is in the movie works but just wish there was a little more. I don’t know if I would watch this again and I’m not sure if that’s a strike for it or against it.
i feel bad for you poor Connor..
