Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Calamity2026

Going by individual episodes, it was an action packed selection with some of the most iconic moments from the manga adapted very faithfully. However when put together they lacked a larger narrative, after all it's only one part of the entire cour. Even so, the ending of the theatrical release felt abrupt and it felt incomplete, they could've ended it earlier or included a bit more to make it more tasteful. Really did enjoy the little panel at the end with Kubo and the team but I'm not gonna factor that into my rating. Uryu, Hachwalth, Urahara, Yoruichi, Ichigo and Orihime were dazzling. Loved the conversation between Byakuya and Toshiro. Zaraki wasnt really relevant. Yhwach and the other quincies were unbearable. Hates the miracle speceficaly. Ichigos final scene was absolutely the highlight, though I'll keep this review spoiler free. Also as is with TYBW, the artstyle is not my favourite. Bleach visuals peaked in the Fullbringer Arc. TYBW has really good art direction, especially when it comes to bankais, but the rendering doesn't sit well with me, too much rimlighting and gradient work ruins any sense of material. Seeing Kubo's sketches at the end made me wonder how much better it could've looked without the TYBW lighting and rendering. Approaching this as a "cinematic experience" rather than a theatrical cut with a plot, it was a nice little novelty. Definitely not worth spending much money on though, the only real benefit was getting to see it a bit earlier.
