watched The Final Cut I'm a bit conflicted here because on one hand, I found the world built here extremely more interesting aesthetically than the one in 2049. (And I think if I rewatched these two I would like this one better). But I was kinda sleepy during this watch for a few moments. The atmosphere here is incredibly rich. It doesn’t just feel like “future” but carries a bunch of qualities that feel lived in. There’s a tiny scene with a bunch of people on bikes that feels almost accidental and it’s awesome. Overall, an image that's very textured and a world that feels very live in. The way the images of eyes, which are so important to the narrative here, are filmed feels so iconic. I love the Voight Kampf test scenes. They sort of carry the main ideas of the central theme of humanity of the film, and when paired with the interactions between Deckard and Rachel, feel just incredible. I'm still figuring out if the “kiss me” scene making me extremely uncomfortable is good or not. The ending itself, which has the iconic “tears in rain” monologue is what feels sort of detached from the rest, weirdly. Deckard seems to stop being confronted by the questions of the possibility of being just the same as a Replicant and behaves completely robotic on his mission as a Blade Runner. Why is he not more conflicted about going after Roy Batty? Here, it feels like the film just goes for a more straightforward, autopilot ending for the sake of getting to the rain scene. I'll be thinking about it and rewatching soon!!
