I get it, it’s for the people who stayed back in Belfast and who also left Belfast but sometimes movie does some stuffs that seemed so off-tone. In the sense, it doesn’t stick with one narrative. Don’t get me wrong, a film doesn’t need to stick with one narrative but here it seemed the writing wasn’t as crisp or consistent. Tone above another tone didn’t work for me, as in for the period it was set in. There’s one beautiful emotional scene towards the end and then immediately after that there is a scene that threw me back for a second. I was like “Why would they show this now?” And felt unnecessary. It struggled with the tonality according to me. The thing that worked for me brilliantly was the performances - Jude hill and Ciaran Hinds. The way it was shot was also great and even the music was good. Wish it was more polished. Nonetheless a feel good movie overall if not extraordinary as some reviews said.
