After watching this in HDR, I gotta say: This motherfucker goes feral over the color blue

Half of it is fantastic and half is just pretty good. The first half is incredibly captivating. It perfectly introduces Bruce Wayne and provides you with a very engaging turn to Batman. The second half though while still good and enjoyable, doesn't have the same impact. I do still think the movie is underrated. Yeah it's no The Dark Knight, but it still is a really smart and compelling origin story for a beloved character.

1:55 AM This is a movie that dedicates the majority of its runtime to the origins of the Batman, so it feels a little off-balance. But this movie had a lot of work to do. How do you take something that has been seen as quirky and campy in the public eye for so long and convey and convince everyone of its serious and (somewhat) realistic world?  Something I probably noticed subconsciously but never really thought about is how Bruce has to destroy these icons representing his father in order to truly become the Batman. There’s the destruction of the train and the burning of the stethoscope in the fire that destroys Wayne Manor. These things are icons representing his father’s legacy and represent perhaps a misalignment in Bruce’s values and the purpose of his mission. Things he has to let go of to truly become the savior of the city that he hopes to be.

85/100 The superhero origin movie that every superhero origin movie from then on wanted to be, and the beginning of one of the most well regarded movie trilogies. Batman (1989) might have started the superhero craze, but in my eyes, this movie really is when Batman truly begins. Like most of Christopher Nolan's movies, this one has a central theme: one of fear. Bruce Wayne adopts the Batman persona to strike fear in criminals, Carmine Falcone rules the city through fear, Scarecrow is a major villain and the whole climax is centered around Gotham tearing itself apart through fear. This theme is very well executed and shows how fear can be shown, but must not be allowed to rule over or defeat us.
