Nothing could've prepared me for this. Why and how does someone come up with this??

Barbarian manages to be somehow completely insane and completely coherent at the same time.

One of the Refreshing horror/thrillers of the year in every way. First half sets us up superbly and it gets into a situation that certainly would have been a climax like in any other movies, but this movie doesn’t stop surprising at this alone. The tonality changes after an hour or so (With great and funny Justin long) is also so seamless that I just couldn’t guess what might happen next, even though there was a sense of dreadfulness because of what had happened in the initial 50 minutes or so (Georgina and Bill Skarsgard was again great in this). The classic backstory before the 3rd act was also sensationally shot and written that gave me the sense of what might be happening in that house. The way it’s shot, small details, brilliant performances and unpredictability of it all, makes this super refreshing.  I have one suggestion for those who read this review, Focus on the initial 1 minute shot and then after the movie ends, remember this opening shot and all the little details in the sounds in the background - GOOSEBUMPS. This is why such movies are special in my list.

barbarian messed me up in the best way possible. god, the first 40 minutes? easily one of the best horror setups i've seen in years, so much tension, so much eerie silence, i was hooked. lemme be real, bonnie was the most annoying character ever?? like girl, please. and keith… ugh, i hated seeing him go that early. i was literally screaming at the screen half the time like “what the fuck are you doing??” and then laughing my ass off the next moment. it’s wild how the mother wasn't even the worst thing down there, like excuse me?? my heart even got weirdly soft at the end, not gonna lie. it’s not perfect, had its weird dips, but man, it sticks with you. solid horror. oh and pro tip? don’t watch this the night before your exam. i did. couldn’t think of anything but this movie for two straight days. rip my grades.

Movie did some dumb af things but after a long time movie got successful to scare me and it was surprising at times too, in the first half everything was just close to perfect for me but later on it gets better and worst at the same time, they could've shown the back story properly and we know it just too rare for horror movies to go perfect with their plot cause not everyone can be convinced and so they do play like this and leave us in shadows, which kind of worked well for them but it felt empty when the credits rolled... but i must say i had great time time watching it, actors did really great job, the direction was applause worthy only typical unfinished plot like other movies but pretty good foundation too.. in the end i just want conclude with saying, it felt refreshing which is rare that's why i liked <3. A 7.5 out of 10
