After Yang2022

Kogonada’s second film which is a dystopian sci fi drama may contain stuffs like techno-sapiens, memory bank, clone kids and all these futuristic stuffs yet Kogonada has managed to create sci fi world which is the most minimalistic, subtle and absolutely heart touching experience in every sense. I have never been this attached to a character that is a Bot or an AI. Think of an AI in HER, Ex-machina or even the Blade runner. The main root of philosophy that affects human beings lies in them and guides humans in some way or the other (Bad or good) in all the movies I mentioned including After Yang where it’s deeply rooted and influence humans to look at their own lives in a different way through an AI’s memory bank. Such a beautiful thought because usually we don’t see AI as a being that could understand life and live life more than us. It’s not easy to replace one’s best memories or recycle it for a new one. Also loved the way the process of making a tea is connected to life. That scene has to be one of my favourites here.  It’s just as beautiful to look at, just like his debut film Columbus was. The cinematography, Architecture, melancholic music and Colin Farrell yet again after THE BATMAN is subtly brilliant here and making an impact. Koganada is already a genius director to me just after 2 movies. Being a huge sci fi fan, I hope he does more stuffs like this.
