9 Days Awake
“9 Days Awake”, the film adaptation of the eponymous novel by Eric Stehfest. Jannik Schümann plays Eric, a junkie who lives to party. He is addicted to the one drug that makes him feel invincible- "like Jesus and the terminator at the same time." When he is accepted to an acting school in Berlin, he tries to reconnect with his great love Anja (Peri Baumeister), change his life, and strive to be better. But numerous conflicts and issues follow him, leaving him to retreat back to his old ways as other situations escalate.

It’s fact that Sci fi genre has got the ability to be ambitious yet grounded and touch your heart. Nine days is one of the best examples of that. Beautiful concept of unborn souls getting interviewed in some other dimension and preparing to be born on earth. Seems simple and strange but the amount of teachings this film gave me touched my soul and it made me rethink which character in the film had the qualities I had, whether bad or good. What’s my worth on this earth to be born as a human? What’s my sole purpose to be alive on this earth? Am I making it more meaningful and creating beautiful memories or wasting it?. This could be life changing film for many. “Life changing” maybe an exaggeration but it will surely mould you as a better person and self-analyse. Pure Drama at the base level with ambitious yet meaningful sci fi concept. Heart touching and one of the best debut movies - Edson Oda . Can’t believe this wasn’t noticed in a big way.
