When Sarah lucks into a sweet one-bedroom at Asilo Del Mar Apartments in Los Angeles, she thinks she's hit the jackpot. It's got plenty of space, friendly tenants, group BBQs and even a cute neighbour next door. All is not what it seems: loud noises start keeping her awake at night; her cat is missing; everyone seems to be a little too helpful and friendly, except for the weirdo, Lester. Soon, Sarah learns she didn't choose this apartment — it chose her.

A cult themed horror film is always so interesting. 1BR is a Wild wild film in that space (if at times familiar). Twisty narrative and tight direction makes it good 90 minutes watch. It surprises you almost every time. But towards the end it becomes predictable and the final 3 seconds (Although very cool) it seems to be doing the same thing which was done by an older film with almost similar ending (Don’t want to name it as it might spoil for many). That might work in this film more than the older film I said but I would have wanted to see something unpredictable as 95% of the film surprised me with something unexpected. Nonetheless a very engaging cult themed horror. Almost Like a good B-grade version of Midsommar in an urban place.
