Zegarra has been considered for decades the worst filmmaker in Peru, with critics calling him “the cholo Ed Wood”, without understanding the transcendence of his work and the proposal that he presents by generating his own aesthetics and connection with the unofficial reality of the country. Leonidas Zegarra’s cinema portrayed society surrounded by a fascinating, mysterious, and quite superstitious aura, which perhaps is why it has been so uncomfortable and incomprehensible for critics.
