Ultraseven: The Terror of Vampires1968

97/100 One of the best sci-fi shows ever made, and a testament as to how good the Ultra Franchise is. A personal favourite, and a highly recommended second or third show in the franchise. Ultraseven's main draw is its sci-fi stories, with epic Kaiju battles taking a backseat unlike last show. However, its definitely worth it, as these stories allow the writers to explore creative science fiction concepts and imaginative science-fiction stories under the framework of alien invasions. This tone of alien invasions also helps Ultraseven have a villain each episode rather than just a monster for the hero to fight. They're par course for the 60s, monologuing and dramatic, but its fun in its own way. The Ultra Guard here are the one thing I'd say are a downgrade from the last show, but they're still very good. We get an episode for each of them exploring their character, which I like. The real draw of Ultraseven is of course its deeper themes, though, and there are a ton of them. Episodes deal with themes such as the arms race, automation and fascism, racism and genocide, and its all handled very well. I almost have to go on an episode-by-episode basis to show how good this show is. In the end, this show is superb, and I almost can't put into words how much I love it. Definitely check it out.
