I can’t believe someone saw this and said “I am going to make the greatest sequel ever made and one of the greatest movies of all time.”  This movie is not great and is extremely hard to follow, but it makes up for its incomprehensibility by being incredibly interesting. I can’t figure out if it is the story itself or the editing that makes it so hard to digest. It’s like the movie begins expecting the audience to completely understand everything that is happening. Especially considering that when this came out, general audiences would know near zero about computers and programs and absolutely zero about the weird pseudoprogrammer world of this film. Like outside of the obvious “programs” and “users,” what are these things supposed to represent? And why are there tanks?  Also, a lot of this movie is so visually meh that the few shots that do stand out only serve as a reminder of how unimpressive it can be. And I’m not talking about the digital shots. I mean the digital camera work is more impressive than most of the live-action work, technically and visually.  There is a huge world that feels undiscovered in this movie, but instead of creating mystery and intrigue like in Legacy, here it just creates confusion.
