Top Gun1986

How do you make a movie about fighter pilots at peace time entertaining? That is the question this movie attempts to answer.  When naval aviator “Cougar” is shaken after an encounter with two enemy MiGs, he resigns and loses his chance to attend the Naval Fighter weapons school, otherwise known as TOP GUN Hot shot pilot “Maverick” and his RIO “Goose”, who were responsible for helping bring Cougar in, against orders, get picked to attend Top Gun in his place.  _______________________________________________________________ Top Gun is definitely a movie made for a certain audience at a certain time. While many aspects work and it’s still a pretty fun film overall it still suffers from pacing and writing issues, but really no worse than a lot of other films from that time.  I definitely understand why this movie became such a classic but I do wish the movie spent more time on certain aspects like getting to know Mavericks classmates better, his relationship with Charlie, and the writing and pacing on his overall story arc with Goose.  It’s not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but if the question is “how do you make a story like this entertaining?” Then I don’t think this movie is the answer.  We’ll get ‘em next time Maverick 🫡
