“𝑺𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒎𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑪𝒂𝒎𝒑 𝑬𝒉𝒓𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒕?” I have loved Jack Benny since I was a child. I have seen his television show and listened to his radio program countless times. And yet I have never seen any of his films. The only one I am really familiar with is the horn blows at midnight and only as the butt of a joke on his show. So it’s very much to my surprise when I find a movie starring Jack Benny and seeing that it is acclaimed and it just so happens to be on hbo max and it’s a WW2 movie to boot I had to watch it. “𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒖𝒔? 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑷𝒐𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅? 𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒖𝒔? 𝑾𝒉𝒚? 𝑾𝒉𝒚? 𝑨𝒓𝒆𝒏'𝒕 𝒘𝒆 𝒉𝒖𝒎𝒂𝒏? 𝑯𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒘𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒆𝒚𝒆𝒔? 𝑯𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒘𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒔? 𝑶𝒓𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒔? 𝑺𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒆𝒔? 𝑫𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔? 𝑨𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔? 𝑷𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔? 𝑭𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒐𝒅? 𝑯𝒖𝒓𝒕 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒘𝒆𝒂𝒑𝒐𝒏𝒔? 𝑺𝒖𝒃𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒔? 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒔? 𝑪𝒐𝒐𝒍𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒎𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒓? 𝑰𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒑𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒌 𝒖𝒔, 𝒅𝒐 𝒘𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒃𝒍𝒆𝒆𝒅? 𝑰𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒍𝒆 𝒖𝒔, 𝒅𝒐 𝒘𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒍𝒂𝒖𝒈𝒉? 𝑰𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒑𝒐𝒊𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒖𝒔, 𝒅𝒐 𝒘𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒅𝒊𝒆? 𝑰𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒖𝒔, 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒘𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆?” A very funny movie about a very unfunny time. This is a tradition we must uphold. We must laugh at our oppressors for their power comes from fear. As long as we believe we have power we have it. The second we forget that fact is the moment that they win. And Nazis whether they wear a red armband or a red hat are always stupid, idiotic, ridiculous, and we must always laugh at them. It seems like every time I turn around the world is getting worse and worse. And yet I have been finding more peace of late. Finding joy in movies more and more. I don’t know if that’s right or wrong. Am I burying my head in the sand? If I gave a damn would it make a difference? There is no underground. There is no revolution. They don’t even censor those that make fun of them. Because they know it means nothing. At least to them it means nothing. How deep does the conspiracy go? Are they radicalizing us only to lull us into further submission? What’s the point? I will keep enjoying films and I will keep trying to be positive. “𝑴𝒓. 𝑹𝒂𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒄𝒉, 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒓𝒆, 𝑰 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅𝒏'𝒕 𝒆𝒂𝒕.” “𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒎𝒆 𝒂 𝒉𝒂𝒎!”
