The Zone of Interest2023

I won’t ever forget the shot where beautiful red flower is shown on screen and the screen is slowly turning to “blood” red colour with a tortured screams in the background. On paper this would sound too minimalistic for a topic that is the most disturbing ever. One might expect a sensationalised version of this. But the director Glazer shows that your film doesn’t need to come under horror genre to make his viewers feel terrified or uncomfortable. Just the sound and our imagination is enough to understand this movie. Almost like the director wanted viewers to be in the shoes of an evil and his family who are disturbingly disregarding the genocide that is happening beside them in the camp and living a beautiful life. In the end I just couldn’t escape all the worrying sounds in the background. I believe I can say director is successful in making me feel this way. The ending sequence is yet another haunting one that I won’t be forgetting any time soon.  PS - My favourite film of Glazer still remains “Under the skin” only because it was #MyShit certified and it was something I crave for always. Nonetheless The zone of interest is another masterpiece. Well deserved Best Picture nomination 2024.
