The Texas Chain Saw Massacre1974

How can a film be so stylish and so raw at the same time? Sometimes can be almost documentary-like, with distant shots and the realism makes the implied violence feel more violent than anything ever. The shot of leather face doing a quick kill and then closing that metal door is extremely disturbing. I feel like for someone watching this in 2024, the 16mm film only helps with the film feeling extremely textured and very real. It’s crazy how when you actually pay attention, there isn’t even that much explicit gore in this. And then other times the film is extremely stylized, with quick cuts, “weird angles” and camera movements, but it just works because of the progression in the story. At first, the attacks are something that disturb the natural flow of the group's life, but at the end becomes a continuous nightmare.  My heart was pounding the entire runtime. It has that frustrating feeling I've seen explored in other films as well of going to someone to try to find help only to find even more problems. At first it might seem like the right kind of moves could save them, but at the end it seems inescapable, like they were doomed from the start. Guess you gotta be careful when Saturn's in retrograde. Also. Was Pearl's house on Ti West's “X” based on the house from the killers in this movie? Felt filmed in a very very similar way. A bunch of similarities with that movie, actually.
