The Revenant2015

“And I thought they smelled bad on the outside.” There are a few different movies and things that came to mind when I was watching this.  One was Hidalgo, which, beyond the connection of a white man living among Native Americans, the look of some shots and some ideas made that movie come to my mind a few times.  Another was Train Dreams. All the shots of the trees and nature and the ideas of a man’s connection with the world and with life.  And funnily, oddly enough, True Detective, with this movie’s focus on spirals and cycles and even the idea of a larger cosmic force.  Glass is being reborn over and over throughout this film, and there are themes of resurrection constantly. And what happens when it’s all over? He is a man whose entire life revolves around nature. And is this quest and his purpose solely about revenge or about returning some sort of balance to the world? This film has left me with a lot to think about. Glad I got to see it in the theatre.  I hope we find peace.
