The Lift1972

Here we are at the start of my second director marathon, and the subject? One Mr. Robert Zemeckis. I’m pretty familiar with his work, seeing most of his heavy hitters and a few of his less popular films. I’m excited to revisit some classics and see how the lineup shakes out by the end. Without further ado, welcome to… Zemeckis-fest! So going into Scorsese’s filmography, I was definitely more aware of his style and tropes to recognize them in his earlier work, but for Zemeckis, despite definitely having seen more of his films prior to this watchthrough than I had Scorsese, I am less aware of his stylistic hallmarks. Other than maybe a broad sense of hopefulness.  So I’m not sure what I’m really looking for here to see if anything present will be more refined or polished in the future.  But I actually enjoyed this and somewhat understood its message and story with the man’s use of technology contrasted with his frustration with an ancient and possibly sentient elevator in his apartment building.  This is pretty charming and short at only seven minutes, so honestly, I’d recommend checking it out. I found it on YouTube though in pretty low quality, but that didn’t hinder my enjoyment too much.
