Scorses-a-thon “When you decide to be something, you can be it. That's what they don't tell you in the church. When I was your age, they would say we can become cops or criminals. Today, what I'm saying to you is this: when you're facing a loaded gun, what's the difference?” A movie that the editing absolutely makes. Actually reminds me of La Confidential with its contrasting characters and inevitability. A classic Scorsese gangster film but viewed under a new lens. And it sits at a kind of crossroads between something like Gangs of New York and Goodfellas. It’s a different mob culture and thus it’s a different kind of film.  Incredible cast and everyone fits their roles perfectly. I think from a visual standpoint I’m not as wowed by this movie aside from a few good shots but I think Scorsese definitely has better-looking movies. I wonder if that is a reason why this movie is so popular. It really is more focused on the story of these two guys and the world they live in between the cops and the mob.  That ending. I guess I would rather have no one win but still. It’s tragic.  Definitely a movie I could watch over and over but not my absolute favorite. But I do understand why it’s so popular.
