The Anderson Tapes1971

It’s fascinating how concerned people were with our nation and the world becoming a corrupt surveillance state. You know 1984 and all that. I can’t imagine how these people would feel if they could see the way the world turned out.  Reminded me a lot of The Conversation though this is a much more condensed film. Maybe this movie’s message gets a little obscured in its simplicity. Or maybe that’s just me.  Definitely something about institutionalization. The way Anderson goes from being constantly observed and controlled in prison to being observed and controlled outside. And if he is still a prisoner by extension, we are all prisoners. Prisoners of the system. This feels like an allegory with each character representing some aspect or facet of the world at large.  I really liked this. It works completely as a heist film and gives a little more on top. I can see myself watching this a lot in the future. Edit: I am shocked, SHOCKED that on the hoity-toity film bro app people would judge this movie and a Sidney Lumet movie solely at face value. And by that I mean I’m not shocked at all. Some of the worst takes I’ve ever seen for a movie. (It’s dated, it’s boring, it’s misogynistic, bla bla bla) literally missing anything the film is trying to convey and dismissing even a chance that the movie could be trying to make some intentional point. And between the Twitter one-liners and absolute brain-dead takes, it makes this app incredibly frustrating to use.  There is no actual way to judge the quality of any movies based on the reviews, which, hmm, seems to be the whole point of the app because everyone got fucking phone brain and can’t be bothered to keep their eyes on the screen for more than five seconds and then still deem themselves worthy of writing some “witty” quip or multi-paragraph take-down of an old movie for being old. It’s stupid, useless, and counterproductive.  Rant over.
