Zemeckis-fest “Nobody ever loved me that much.” S6E15: You, Murderer Unfortunately, here Zemeckis’ more corny attributes have some to play. The episode starts with the crypt keeper dressed as Forrest Gump sitting next to Alfred Hitchcock. He then does a spookified version of the Life Is a Box of Chocolates speech. And this intro is fitting as it’s a bastardization of the film and character of Forrest Gump, just like this episode is a bastardization of Humphrey Bogart the actual person.  Though I guess you could call it an homage. The premise is interesting enough. We are Humphrey Bogart, and the whole thing is from his POV. It features some 90s deep fake technology, which is interesting seeing how the modern media landscape is regarding that kind of thing. Humphrey Bogart is even top billed despite having been dead for like thirty years. His presence was accomplished by a voice double and the aforementioned deep fakery.  All in all, it’s more interesting for how it is rather than what it is. And it’s very much in line with his later obsession with motion capture. It’s also interesting as he would use the modern version of this in his most recent movie, Here to deage Its leads. So to see that thread all the way back here and on a tv show no less is fascinating. Maybe he’s just ahead of his time. I don’t know about all that.  Just disappointing compared to how strong the last entry was.
