Snake Eyes1998

A new absolute favorite. Everything works for me. The characters, the plot, the location, the cinematography. Every factor seems perfectly made just for me. Nic Cage gives an incredible performance as a corrupt, loudmouth cop who, over a night of investigation, learns how far he is willing to go and how much he would sell his soul for.  This movie looks fantastic. It has some signature De Palma POV shots and wonderful long takes that work so fantastically to create unease and suspense. The colors are saturated, and everything pops. There is a moment early in the film where the camera is looking through the crowd, and you don’t know what it’s looking for, but you know something is about to happen. I love classic stories told well, and this one definitely fits the bill.  I’m surprised I had never heard of this movie before, and it seems supremely underrated. I highly recommend this film.
