Phenomenal 25-30 minutes opening act really made me expect this to be one hell of an art that will become one of the best of the year. But somewhere the same caliber of filmmaking couldn’t translate in the remaining 90 minutes. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a great character study movie performed brilliantly by Vanessa Kirby. Just that initial 30 minutes had made me expect it to stay the same. But yes, I can understand that after a huge loss to the characters, writer had to take a route that’s quite random and grief comes randomly after a huge loss. It doesn’t happen whenever we want to. That grief and troubled mind in characters can be seen at many chilled out and positive situations too which is shown beautifully in the film. The grief’s randomness took some time for me to adjust after insanely disturbing and tensed initial 30 minutes. There are even few scenes I felt was not necessary, but the showcase of grief in those scenes were so random and real that I suddenly felt that it was necessary. The real negative is the time it took to set up the story and screenplay choice after superb initial 30 minutes. Some of the usual metaphors were repetitive. I felt disinterested in few scenes in the middle. Otherwise this is such a beautifully performed film throughout. In the end I was really satisfied, especially Vanessa Kirby’s character’s arc is just too good. Very real, sometimes melodramatic but that expression of grief in her is the most powerful thing of the film.
