I like that we start with Elwood as a young child because it feels like you're learning how to watch the film as he discovers and learns how to navigate his world. And as the movie goes on, the shots become more steady and centered (except in times of distress when Elwood regresses). It's weird.The POV worked for me. I was fully locked in and never left my seat. But I also think the relationship between time and the POV got unnecessarily confusing a few times. It felt like the ball in the teacup trick where you struggle to catch up if you blink. But that's a very minor issue with an incredible movie in nearly every respect. Once Turner comes in, it's quite easy to develop an emotional connection with all the characters. It's a little tough early on, but I really don't think it's the POV. He's an introverted, quiet kid for hecks sake. Shocked this isn't talked about more in the Oscar race. It deserves a sound win. It basically does a mainstream version of The Zone of Interest. A few shots reminded me of Sally and the ending in TCM, which makes the next sequence even more devastating.
