Kingsman: The Secret Service2015

96/100 This might be one of the most fun experiences I've ever had, especially among movies. Such a superb spy film and an excellent homage to the Bond films of old. There are, of course, a bunch of action scenes in this film, and I found all of them very entertaining. They're well-shot and choreographed, and the gadgets used are unique and fun. They're also spread out decently well, so I was never bored throughout the movie. My favourite of these scenes is one that takes place in the most tolerant church in all of Kentucky, particularly the use of the "Free Bird" guitar solo, as well as the camera using POV shots to make us feel like we're part of the battle as well as allowing us to focus in the middle of a sea of death. It's just great. The cast here is also great. Taron Egerton does great as "Eggsy", our main character, and Samuel L. Jackson does great as the villain. I particularly liked his interactions with his assassin assistant Gazelle, and the setup that was paid off in his death scene. Michael Caine was also an unexpected yet pleasant surprise as Chester King. The highlight, however, was Colin Firth as Harry Hart, alias "Galahad." I loved his portrayal of the character, switching effortlessly between a good mentor figure and a suave "gentleman thief" figure, and this balance perfectly captures the tone of the movie: switching between emotional and awesome and making them both work. This movie knows just how seriously to take itself in order to be good while still poking fun at itself once in a while. However, it's always with love instead of being mean-spirited, and that's what saves this film and elevates it to superbness.
