I Wanna Hold Your Hand1978

Zemeckis-fest What a fascinating debut film. Comparatively to Scorsese for a first feature, this film is way more polished. It is also a very different film from all of Scorsese’s early work but still attempting to be relatable just in a very different way. And what is the topic of this director’s first film? Why, Beatlemania, of course!  It almost seems fitting that a man whose career will be made on time travel movies should have his directorial debut be a blast from the past. Honestly, this really feels like a sister film to American Graffiti. A bunch of kids spending one night trying to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience as they near the twilight of their youth. Because they are united in their goal (to see the Beatles), it makes the movie an easier watch. It’s a really light film, and any depth is all in the subtext, and also, I probably made it up.  This is just incredibly solid. There’s some great car stuff that Zemeckis would plus to the nth degree in Used Cars. I can definitely see the BTTF of it all in this even more than in that film. I really like both of these first two movies a lot, but Used Cars edges it out just a little more for sheer hilarity. But both are definitely underrated and deserve waaaaaay more love.  So why not give them some love? Love, love me do You know I love you I'll always be true So please… Love me do
