She had to leave her hometown - Chengdu, moved from a modern city to Lugu lake where the matrilineal society and the "Axia visiting marriage" system still exist. Lugu Lake is about 1000 miles far from Chengdu in remote mountain area. There are no lawfully registered marriage system or patriarchy clan relatives around the Lugu Lake, and Xiao lived here for about 54 years. During this long period, she never came back hometown.
