Death on the Nile2022

Kenneth Branagh’s take on Death on the Nile is worse than the ‘78 film and worse than his own Orient Express. This film is so melodramatic to the point of insufferability. So many characters and plot points added for “emotion” that only rings hollow. Even bringing back a character from the previous film for the sole purpose of killing them off. And likewise Poirot himself is equally melodramatic. Characters call him cold and calculating but he’s does nothing but show emotion. It bears no weight and holds no import. Poirot does not need a backstory to drive his motivations. He is a force of nature. And I do not need to see the origin story of his mustache.  The film looks incredibly flat with everything seemingly shot on green screens and soundstages. Boring.  There are flaws that are inherent with this story and other Christie mysteries but this film does nothing lessen those flaws. In fact all it does is add more on top of everything.  I don’t think I will need to revisit this film for many many years.
