“Fuck L.A.” Despite the fact that I hate cops, I love a good cop movie. And this is a pretty good cop movie about some pretty bad cops. The movie uses a real-life tragedy as the background for the overarching police corruption plot. Which seems to be what every review talks about. Which makes sense. It’s pretty much what the whole movie is about without really being about it. Kurt Russell’s character isn’t just a dirty cop; he is a monster who is willing to do anything as long as the ends justify the means. Or even if they don’t. And by the end, he still isn’t a good man, but he is willing to pay the price for what he’s done. This is already a pretty good movie, but it could have been great if it was willing to take the time to dive a little deeper into its characters. I’d still recommend it, but there are better movies like it.
