Boxcar Bertha1972

This isn’t Martin Scorsese’s first feature film, but it was his first available on streaming. I’ll try to watch his actual first film tonight or tomorrow.  Something about movies from the 70s: they’re either one of the best movies ever made or one of the slowest, most drawn-out movies of all time. Now, this isn’t the worst movie ever made, but it is far from a masterpiece. It is incredibly slow at the start but picks up a little as it goes on. Scorsese’s penchant for crime and gangster films is still evident here, and that aspect of the film is probably the best part. There’s a well-shot but short car chase and other brief, exciting moments followed by long, long moments of nothingness. But despite all that, the end came together and really worked for me. This is definitely no must-watch, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.  At least it’s woke? I’ve tried to do a few different actor or director watch-throughs this year, but I haven’t been able to stick it through. So I think my best bet is to just hunker down and go in chronological order. Honestly, watching all those James Bond movies has given me the oomph I needed to really do something like this. And I know ol’ Marty has enough heaters to keep me going. So let’s see if I can keep up with The Scorses-a-thon.
