Zemeckis-fest A bizarre and surprising film. This is definitely a facet of Zemeckis that I was not expecting. Gruesome, vulgar, and intense. It’s a retelling of a classic legend with a lot of flash found in his other motion capture films but with absolutely no holds barred. A movie that is as far as I can tell is wholly unique in his filmography.  A film that is definitely of its time. Post-Lord of the Rings, post-Shrek, and very 2007. Really, it’s just an experience from beginning to end. I can’t imagine what people thought of this when it came out.  I honestly think I would rather have complete CGI motion capture films like this than the lifeless hybrid slop we have today. This movie took risks. It’s bold and unique. And honestly, I was entertained throughout.  It has definitely given me a new perspective on Zemeckis. I never knew he was so freaky. But genuinely, this is a fascinating movie that I think deserves more love.
