Beau Is Afraid2023

Just when I thought I have seen such kinda characters before, Ari Aster throws something that is never seen before especially the mad climax 😂. Yes as a character and mind’s projection of his guilt and dread-ness on screen is something Charlie Kaufman has constantly done with his characters and probably a much better way with a consistent theme. But Ari Aster takes a different route - it’s deliberately inconsistent when it comes to maintaining the theme. As much as depressing the character is, it’s still trying to be a fantasy/comedy movie more than anything according to me. At times it even felt like a post-apocalyptic movie. This is where I feel Ari Aster scored for me in giving something totally unexpected. Just like Charlie Kaufman’s characters, Ari aster’s Beau is also not completely in sync with the reality and confused - The only similarities. That feeling is even translated onto me which made me wonder what is reality and what is not. Inconsistently wild movie and inconsistency became a positive for me here in the end.
