Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom2023

Un scénario mal ficelé, une réalisation bancale et des costumes tout droit sortis de la friperie du coin : voici Astérix et Obélix : L'Empire du milieu. Pour le dire clairement : RIEN n'est à sauver. On se croirait face à un film tourné au caméscope par des gamins de quatorze ans. C'est assez douloureux quand on sait que tout ce foutoir a coûté plus de 60 millions d'Euros. Ce film, c'est un peu l'hémorroïde dans le derrière du Cinéma Français. En plus d'être mauvais et très mal écrit, ce (trop) long-métrage est assaisonné, ça-et-là, de stéréotypes, de clichés et de "blagues" que même Amy Schumer n'oserait pas faire. "Astérix et Obélix : L'Empire du milieu" se veut comédie. Mais l'appeler comédie serait excessif : la seule scène qui fait rire dure quelques secondes, quand un pigeon voyageur sonne comme un téléphone portable. Mouais, était-ce un véritable rire, ou bien un rire nerveux ?... Allez savoir. Guillaume Canet, au lieu de réaliser un film bon et intéressant, a préféré s'entourer de stars souvent surcotées (et celles qui ne le sont pas gaspillent leur véritable talent là-dedans), sans doute dans l'espoir vain d'attirer un public jeune et souvent influençable dans les Salles Obscures. A sloppy script, a lackluster direction, and clothes straight out of the local thrift store: introducing "Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom". To put it bluntly: NOTHING is worth saving. The film feels like it was shot on a video camera by a bunch of fourteen-year-olds. Which is pretty pathetic when you consider that this whole mess cost over 60 million euros. In a way, this film is like a big old pain in the butt for French cinema. Besides being terrible and badly written, the film is overlong and peppered here and there with clichés, stereotypes, and “jokes” that even Amy Schumer wouldn’t dare make. “Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom” is billed as a comedy. Yet calling it a “comedy” would be an overstatement: the only scene that elicits a laugh only lasts a few seconds, involving a carrier pigeon ringing like a mobile phone. Now, was that a genuine laugh, or just a nervous chuckle?... Who knows. Instead of making a decent, entertaining film, Guillaume Canet opted to surround himself with a cast of often overrated stars (and those who aren’t are wasting their real talent here), undoubtedly in the vain hope of luring a young, impressionable audience into the cinema.
