Running away and getting nowhere fast I don’t usually watch movies like this outside of Oscar season, so to see this in the theatres was quite a treat. Created by Daniel Day-Lewis and his son, this film definitely has something to say about fathers and sons, brothers, and shame and pride. Incredible performances by Bean and Day-Lewis. Honestly, they are the whole heart of the film. I understand why the section with the son needed to be included, but I would have watched this if it was only about the two brothers.  The tragedy of Ray’s shame is so moving, and I feel there is more in what wasn’t said than what was. This truly is a movie that loves silence, especially in the first half. But the camera work makes the silence so tense that you can’t help but wonder about everything they won’t say. Which is, I think, the point of the movie.  I think this is a movie well worth checking out while it’s still in theatres.
