I don’t exist.” A Summer's Tale demonstrates not just Eric Rohmer’s mastery of perspective and characterization, but also his keen eye for stunning, sun-drenched landscapes and all the fineries of human interaction that they inspire. Rohmer cleverly leaves the characters’ dilemmas unanswered; they ramble about their feelings of loneliness, rejection, and fulfillment, but it is the audience's own experience that spontaneously fills in the gaps of self-reflection and judgment. It made me see a little of myself in every single character of His films and receive so much comfort from it.
