3:10 to Yuma2007

Sometimes all that separates a friend from an enemy is a time and place, and the difference is as thin as a sheet of paper. Or a dollar bill.  Russell Crowe and Christian Bale both play interesting characters in this film, with Crowe appearing to be the more interesting of the two. Crowe plays a man caught after his latest stagecoach robbery, and Bale is the man determined to bring him to justice. At first, he’s only bringing him in for money to save his ranch, but it soon becomes about much more.  The characters are more than you expect at face value. They make Crowe obvious with his pleasant demeanor and artistic tendencies. Bale is on the surface more straightforward, but I was surprised by the depth of his character in the end.  It’s a pretty straightforward western with good characters and great actors. A dad movie if there ever was one.
