2001: A Space Odyssey1968

i get why this has been talked about nonstop since 1968. what i didn’t expect though was the horror. not in a jumpscare or monster way, but this eerie dread, this terrifying emptiness that just sat with me. i don’t think i’ve ever felt that from a movie before. usually, i get scared and then it’s gone once the credits roll, but this left me with a weird void i can’t even explain. it’s wild how a two and a half hour movie with less than 40 minutes of dialogue can still hold you completely. and the hal scenes? incredible. kubrick basically nailed the essence of ai decades ago. that whole sequence where hal gets unplugged… absolute perfection.
